Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 June 2026
We handle your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
Smart Motion (“we”, “us”, “our”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. It applies to our website (smartmotion.life), our GridPilot and GridPilot AI services, and any other dealings you have with us.
1 Information We Collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us.
Information you give us — when you complete a form, request to get started, subscribe, or contact us, including:
- Your name
- Email address
- Phone number
- Postcode or address
- Details about your home energy setup (inverter brand, electricity retailer, whether you have a battery)
- Any other information you choose to provide
Energy and system data — when you use GridPilot or GridPilot AI, we collect and process data from your home energy system, such as solar generation, battery state and charge/discharge activity, household energy consumption, and related performance data. We use this to operate the service, optimise your battery, and show you your results.
Information collected automatically — when you visit our website, we automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring pages, and how you use the site. This helps us keep the site secure and improve it.
Payment information — if you buy a product or subscription, your payment is handled by our third-party payment provider. We do not store your full card details on our systems.
2 Cookies and Tracking
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to make the site work, remember your preferences, and understand how it's used. We also use third-party tools that may set their own cookies, including:
- Google services (such as analytics and reCAPTCHA) — to measure site usage and protect our forms from spam
- Meta (Facebook) Pixel — to measure how well our marketing is working
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly without them.
3 How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate and manage GridPilot and GridPilot AI, including trading and optimising your battery
- Set up your system, respond to your enquiries, and provide support
- Process payments and manage your subscription
- Send you administrative messages about your account or service
- Improve our website, products and services
- Keep our systems and customers safe and secure
- Meet our legal and regulatory obligations
We only send marketing messages where you've agreed or where otherwise permitted, and you can opt out at any time.
4 When We Share Your Information
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only where necessary to run our service, including with:
- Energy market and integration partners — such as your electricity retailer or market platform (for example Amber Electric or Localvolts) and the platforms GridPilot runs on (such as Home Assistant / Nabu Casa), so your battery can be monitored and traded
- Service providers — such as our hosting, backup, payment, analytics and communication providers, who handle data on our behalf
- Legal and safety reasons — where we're required by law, or to protect our rights, our customers, or others
We only share what's necessary, and we require our providers to protect your information.
5 Overseas Disclosure
Some of our service providers (for example cloud hosting, analytics, or communication tools) may store or process data outside Australia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with this policy and Australian privacy law.
6 How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it — to provide the service, meet our legal and accounting obligations, or resolve disputes. When we no longer need it, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
7 How We Keep Your Information Safe
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including secure hosting and access controls. However, no system can be guaranteed 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information transmitted over the internet.
8 Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct information that's inaccurate or out of date
- Ask us to delete your information, where we're able to
- Opt out of marketing communications
To make a request, contact us at [email protected]. If you're not satisfied with how we've handled your information, please contact us first — and you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9 Children
Our products and website are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10 Third-Party Links
Our website may contain links to other websites. We're not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
11 Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this page, with the “last updated” date shown at the top.
