How to Find Your Localvolts API Key for the GridPilot Power Plant
If you’re a Localvolts customer, connecting your real-time energy pricing to the GridPilot Power Plant (GPP) lets it trigger imports and exports based on your own wholesale prices. Your API key is the bridge that links the GPP to your live Localvolts account.
What is the API key for?
Localvolts gives you access to true 5-minute wholesale market pricing. Your API key lets the GPP integration pull that live data straight into your setup, so you can automate things like charging your battery when prices are cheap (or negative), running the pool pump or hot water when power is low, and maximising export earnings from your solar.
Step 1: Log in to your account
Head to the Localvolts website and log in to your customer account using your usual email and password. If you’re not a customer yet, you’ll need to register first.
Step 2: Open your profile
Once you’re logged in, go to your profile or account settings. Your private API token is generated against your account and lives in this area.
Step 3: Copy your key and add it securely
Copy your full API key carefully and treat it like a password — it grants access to your energy account data. Enter it directly into the GridPilot API secure portal provided from the Smart Motion team.
Wrapping up
That’s it. From there, your home can start responding to live electricity prices automatically through the GridPilot Power Plant.
